Import Tool

Import photos from Pexels, your device, or your cloud storage directly onto your canvas.

How to use the Import tool

Click the Import button in the toolbar to open the Import dialogue.

Choose a source: Pexels photos, Your Device, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive.

Browse or search for the image you want. For Pexels, type a search term and press Find.

Click Import next to the image you want. It is placed in the centre of the canvas.

Use the Select tool to move, resize, or rotate the imported image as needed.

Import sources

Pexels Photos

Search millions of free, high-quality stock photos. Type any keyword (e.g. "sunset", "cat", "forest") and browse the results. Photos are licensed for free use.

Your Device

Import any PNG or JPG image from your computer, tablet, or phone using the standard file picker.

Google Drive

Import paintings saved to your MyPaintings folder in Google Drive. Requires Google sign-in.

Microsoft OneDrive

Import paintings from your MyPaintings folder in OneDrive. Requires Microsoft sign-in.

Non-destructive import: Imported images land on the object layer above the bitmap canvas. They do not affect other elements until you switch to a bitmap painting tool, which flattens everything. This means you can move and resize imported images freely before committing them.

Searching Pexels

Select "Pexels Photos" in the Import dialogue.

Type a search term in the search box (e.g. "mountain", "car", "happy children").

Press Find or hit Enter. Up to 24 matching photos appear in a scrollable grid.

Click Import next to any photo. It is downloaded and placed on your canvas.

Photos as backgrounds

Import a landscape photo at full canvas size as a background, then paint characters or objects on top.

Texture references

Import a photo of a texture (wood, stone, fabric) for reference while painting, then delete it when done.
