Text Tool

Add text labels, titles, and captions to your paintings. Choose font, size, style, and colour.

How to add text

Select the Text tool from the toolbar.

Set your font options in the context panel: font family, size, bold, italic, and text colour.

Click on the canvas where you want the text to appear. A text entry box opens.

Type your text. The text box expands as you type. Press Enter for a new line.

Click outside the text box (or press Escape) to confirm and place the text as an object on the canvas.

Move or resize the placed text using the Select tool.

Text options

Font family

Choose from system fonts including serif, sans-serif, monospace, and handwriting styles.

Font size

Set size in pixels. Range is typically 8-200 px. Default is 24 px.

Style

Toggle Bold and Italic for emphasis. Combine for bold-italic text.

Colour

Text uses your currently selected colour. Change colour before clicking to place.

Object layer: Text is placed on the object layer and remains editable (moveable, resizable) until you switch to a bitmap painting tool, which flattens it permanently to the canvas.

Tips

Title text

Use a large font size (48-100 px) with bold for titles and headings.

Move after placing

Use the Select tool to reposition your text after placing it. Drag by clicking inside the text bounds.

Rotate text

Select the text object with the Select tool and use the rotation handle to tilt the text at an angle.
